Welcome to Cariad! As a proud wedding florist, helping you design the floral arrangements for your wedding day is one of my favourite tasks & biggest honours. Wedding flowers can transform your venue, reflect your personal style, and set the mood for your big day. Here’s a guide to help you navigate your floral journey, ensuring every petal is perfect.
What's the vibe & where is the venue?
Every wedding has its own unique atmosphere, and your floral arrangements should compliment the vibe you envision. Is your wedding taking place in a rustic barn, an elegant hotel, or a classic church? The venue can significantly influence the style of your flowers. For a rustic barn, wildflowers and mason jar arrangements might be ideal. An elegant hotel could call for sophisticated blooms like roses and peonies in grand, ornate vases. Classic church weddings often pair well with traditional flowers such as sweet peas, hydrangeas and delphiniums. Share your vision and venue details with us, and we’ll tailor the flowers to enhance the style of your chosen location.
Quantities: who gets flowers & how many tables?
Determining the quantity of flowers is essential for a seamless and stunning floral design. Consider who will need flowers: the bride and groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents, and perhaps even special guests. Don’t forget the centrepieces for your tables, decorations for the ceremony aisle, and any floral accents for the venue. How many tables will there be? Will you need an arch or floral backdrop for the ceremony? Discussing these details early ensures that every important person and corner of the venue has been thought about, and nothing is missed on the big day.
Timings: when to choose your flowers and contact florists
Timing is crucial when planning wedding flowers. Ideally, you should start the conversation with your florist at least a year before your wedding day, however the further in advance, the better! This allows ample time for selecting the perfect blooms, especially if you have specific flowers in mind that may need to be sourced or ordered in advance. Early planning also helps in coordinating with other aspects of your wedding décor, ensuring everything is harmoniously integrated.
Colour scheme: how to choose?
Your wedding flowers should harmonise with your overall colour scheme. Think about the mood you want to evoke: soft pastels for a romantic feel, vibrant hues for a lively celebration, or classic whites and greens for timeless elegance.
My best advice is to choose colours that align with your everyday life. Do you wear lots of colour and have a colourful home? If so, bright blooms could be the way to go! Or, do you wear a lot of neutrals and have a minimal colour scheme at home? A classic all-white or neutral colour palette could work well for your wedding florals. Ultimately, your wedding colour palette should make you happy and feel true to you, so many brides simply pick their favourite colour!
Seasonality: Embrace the Season
The season of your wedding plays a significant role in flower selection. Flowers are famously seasonal, so it’s good to let your florist know if you have any particular stems in mind for your big day. We can of course advise what’s in and out of season on your wedding day, and propose suitable alternatives if anything’s unavailable.
Be true to you
Above all, your wedding flowers should reflect your personality and style. It’s easy to get caught up in trends or feel pressured to conform to certain standards, but remember, this day is about you and your partner. Choose flowers that make you happy, colours that speak to you, and arrangements that feel right for your celebration. Trust your instincts and don’t overthink it – the best weddings are those that are true to your unique love story.
